Input

Generate redirects from a list of old and new URLs

Output

Redirects

6 redirects

/a to /b chains on to /c: point it at /c directly.

301 and 308 are permanent and pass ranking signals to the new URL; 302 and 307 are temporary and keep the old one indexed. An Nginx map is a hash lookup, so thousands of exact redirects cost nothing per request, unlike thousands of location blocks.

Runs in this browser. Nothing you paste is sent to a server.

Redirects after a migration

When URLs change, every indexed page, bookmark and inbound link still points at the old one. A permanent redirect (301 or 308) sends readers to the new page and passes ranking signals to it; Google's redirects documentation recommends server-side permanent redirects for moved content.

Fix chains at the source

If /a redirects to /b and /b to /c, every visit to /a makes two round trips and crawlers may stop following. The generator points out each chain so /a can go straight to /c.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 301 and 308?
Both are permanent. A 308 requires the client to repeat the same method and body, so a POST stays a POST; a 301 lets clients switch to GET. For page moves either works.
How many redirects can Nginx handle?
With a map, tens of thousands of exact redirects cost a hash lookup per request. Thousands of separate location blocks or rewrite rules are slower and harder to maintain.
Is what I paste sent anywhere?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type or paste is sent to our server or stored.
